Introduction
This is a logo I created for a week-long concept hackathon I completed in late 2022. What you’re seeing below here is the final execution and implementation of the GoVote logo (a redesign from the initial version after hackathon completion). For our concept hackathon we created an app designed to ease the process of voting season–providing users with a way to check their voter registration status, find their polling place, etc. I named the app “GoVote,” creating a quick rendition you’ll find as you scroll further on. I will cover the inspiration behind the logo, it’s color palette and transformation process.
The Logotype
Initially, this is where the logo started. Slightly altering the the Europa typeface, I created a ballot checkmark out of the V. This logo is capable of standing alone without the goat icon I later created. This is the primary logo used within the GoVote prototype.
The Woman Who Stares at Goats…

final execution
The initial rendition was simply a silhouette of a goat photo with little stylistic approach as I was unable to accomplish much more within the week-long hackathon timeframe.
I later utilized the circle technique in the redesign to provide a more harmonious, stylized feel. In addition, I incorporated a thin sliver of negative space as an abstraction of the ridge running down the goat’s neck and back, providing enough complexity and dimensionality to create the illusion of a head turn. I later added a subtle shadow to accentuate these properties.
Why a Purple Goat?
1. We wanted our hypothetical users of this conceptual voter app to feel confident and in charge in the face of voting season. We wanted them to feel like Tom Brady…the greatest of all time (GOAT).
2. I felt it was necessary that our voter resources app have a four-legged mascot of its own, thus the purple goat.
